In the ever-evolving labyrinthine corridors of post-punk, few acts command the kind of fervent devotion reserved for Toronto’s TRAITRS. After a four-year, they’ve returned not with a whisper, but a conflagration: “Burn In Heaven,” the lead single from their anticipated 2026 album Possessor. Released on September 26th via their Bandcamp, this track doesn’t just mark a comeback—it’s a ritualistic rebirth, searing the airwaves with themes of fanaticism, possession, and the perilous dance between faith and fanaticism.

From its opening salvo of churning guitars and motorik drums, “Burn In Heaven” unfurls like a forbidden hymn, its melody soaring through elegiac heights laced with solemn fire. Murta’s vocals—anguish and grandeur, evoking the spectral wails of Robert Smith intertwined with Brett Anderson’s raw vulnerability—propel lyrics that probe the darkest crevices of the soul.

The single artwork pulled from Pedro Almodóvar’s adaptation of The House of Bernarda Alba—a stark, black-and-white portrait of Isabelle Adjani’s haunted visage that mirrors the track’s tension between sanctity and suffering. This visual choice isn’t mere aesthetic flourish; it amplifies TRAITRS’ knack for weaving cinematic dread into their darkwave variety, a thread that’s run through their catalog since their 2012 inception.

To fan the flames of this resurrection, TRAITRS are unleashing a globe-spanning tour—22 dates across 11 countries, from Europe’s shadowed alleys to Mexico City’s electric underbelly. Kicking off October 24th at Rome’s Reload SpeakEasy, the run snakes through France, Scandinavia, Germany, the Balkans, and Georgia, hitting hotspots like Paris’ La Java, Berlin’s Slaughterhouse (with a double dose of shows), and Athens’ Death Disco. The trek culminates November 28th at Mexico City’s Circo Volador, but whispers of North American extensions linger—stay vigilant on their socials.
