Mdou Moctar Flames with Righteous Anger Over “Funeral for Justice”
Mdou Moctar’s latest album “Funeral for Justice” is not just new music; A true desert blues quartet. After a two-year world tour that fueled 2019’s breakthrough “Afrique Victime,” Moctar and his band return as a tighter, faster and more propulsive than ever before. This is no longer your comfortable desert blues; It is a full-fledged rock attack.
But the real excitement comes from Moctar’s lyrics. “Funeral for Justice” is a blistering indictment of corruption, colonialism and the struggles in his home country of Niger. Tracks like “Oh France” highlight foreign influence and its devastating impact without exaggerating it.
Moctar isn’t just angry. There is a strong wave of hope in the album. Songs like “Afrique” bring together screams and promote unity and self-determination.
“Funeral for Justice” is not easy to get over. Raw, intense and deeply political. But it’s also undeniably powerful. This is music that will move you, challenge you, and leave you wanting more.
